American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation Events Draw Record Number of Skiers for 50th Anniversary of Birkie Week

Registration Closes for Prince Haakon and Birkie Open Track Events

HAYWARD, WISCONSIN – November 9, 2023 – The 50th Anniversary of Birkie Week is already making history with a surge of registrations causing races to fill up earlier than ever before. Registration for the Prince Haakon (15K) and Birkie Open Track events closed at midnight on November 7, 2023. This closure followed shortly after the Kortelopet (29K) reached capacity on October 31, and the Slumberland American Birkebeiner (50K/53K) on September 27. These early closures are a momentous milestone, signaling the unparalleled excitement and anticipation surrounding the 50th-anniversary celebration.

As of today, a record 12,986 participants are registered for the four major ski events. Additionally, there will be thousands of skiers participating in the Barnebirkie youth ski tour, Jr. Birkie, ParaBirkie, Barkie Birkie Skijor, and Birkie Giant Ski events. The 50th Anniversary milestone marks the greatest participation in Birkie Week ski events than ever before.

The 2024 Birkie Week will be a monumental celebration of cross-country skiing’s past, present, and future.
