In the upcoming months, we’re delighted to share a series of captivating runner stories with you. Our first spotlight falls on Hali and her family, who hail from the heart of Nebraska. Their story is one of resilience, determination, and the joy of running.
“I’ve always lived a pretty active lifestyle whether it was swimming, rowing, lifting weights, hiking, etc. I am now 7 months postpartum with my first child and getting back into the swing of things. My husband and I enjoy our local 5k runs in our town, North Platte, NE. There is a fitness group called platte river fitness series. They are so encouraging. We aren’t super competitive, just like to run/walk and get movement in.
I ran my first postpartum 5k one month after he was born with a 25 lb stroller, 12 lb car seat, and a 9 lb baby. It was quite the journey but I felt so proud of myself afterwards. Then we did our second 5k when he was almost 2 months. We took the winter off and our first run of the year is March 30th. We are so excited. What keeps me motivated is to be healthy for my son. I want to be on the ground playing with him and future kids/grandkids with little to no health issues.
We are traveling as a family for this run as we love the North Woods and it’s right around both mine and my sister’s birthday! It will be my husband, myself and our son Harrison, my sister and brother-in-law and their daughter, my brother and his girlfriend, and my mom and dad. We all will be participating either in the 5k, the trek, or half marathon and camping at ROAM Adventure Basecamp. WE CANT WAIT!”
