RUNNING STORIES: Virginia Runner plans to come back to the Northwoods for the Birkie Trail Run 1/2 Marathon
Joining us from Virginia, Jean and her family will share time in Hayward, WI. Without knowing, I reached out to Jean and Hali, and turns out they are mother and daughter! What a fun connection. Below is her story:
“In 2020, we were living in Duluth, my hubby was working out of town, and our (then teenager) son and I decided to run the Birkie Trail Run 1/2 Marathon. We camped at the nearby Roam Basecamp and loved the area and the run. The leaves were in peak season, the course was amazing, the volunteers/staff were so encouraging (it was COVID, so we were socially distanced, but everyone was still so amped and helpful), and I truly loved the maple syrup samples you gave out and have been using them ever since! I have wanted to go back and run the Birkie Trail Run for years and am so excited to be going back this year!
We travel and move frequently with my husband’s work and participate in runs wherever we are. When people find I have ran many places – and they ask my favorite run – I always say the Birkie Trail Run!! I have met a few others who have ran it and they all loved it! We are currently in Virginia, soon going to Texas- but this September we have invited our three adult kids and their families to camp up in Hayward and anyone who wishes can run in the Birkie Trail Run! I’m signed up for the 1/2 Marathon!! I have been fortunate to participate in running events with all of our kids over the years and look forward to partaking in the Birkie Trail Run with them!”
Below are pictures of Jean from the 2020 Birkie Trail Run and a few from runs she’s done the last couple of months in or near Virginia.
