Derksen – Douglas Family Bathhouse
at the American Birkebeiner Trailhead
Through the generosity of the Jon and Sue Derksen, Todd and Carrie Derksen, and Aaron and Alyssa Douglas comes an incredible upgrade to the American Birkebeiner Trailhead. You may recognize their names from the Derksen Family Great Hall and Derksen Family Timing building, also located at the American Birkebeiner Trailhead. They are a multi-generational family of skiers, bikers, and outdoor enthusiasts who see value in continual improvements to the facilities that make so many experiences possible.
The Derksen and Douglas Families have generously donated $105,000 and are challenging us to match their donation! Construction will begin in spring of 2025 so now is your chance to help make this needed upgrade happen! The cost of the bathhouse will be $250,000 which will include the septic, well, electrical and all building materials and finishes and will reduce the need for porta-potty use for so many of our events!
The Derksen – Douglas Family Bathhouse will be located adjacent to the Great Hall. It will have 14 unisex stalls with individual access including two ADA accessible stalls all with heat, insulation, and running water for 4-season use and comfort. The building will also include a utility room to allow for faster, easier clean-up. The American Birkebeiner staff have worked with local contractors and building codes along with analyzing standard event use to determine the size and location of the building. This bathhouse will replace nearly all porta-potty needs at the small to medium size events such as the Birkie Trail Run, Gitchi Gami Games, Birkie Tour, and Fat Bike Birkie as well as offering greater amenities for outside event rentals whether for the WI High School State Ski meet, summer training camps, or special events such as the Cable Natural History Museum’s Annual Fundraiser.
